Do I still need an ultrasound if I take the KnowtheGender test?
It is important to understand that a gender predictor test is not a replacement for an Ultrasound. Ultrasounds are important and should be taken for medical and/or health reasons and are not only for knowing the sex of the baby.
Studies have shown that ultrasounds have an accuracy rate of less than 85% before 12 weeks and are greater than 98% accurate at 21 weeks post-conception. Because it can take from five to six months to tell the gender of your baby using the ultrasound, KnowtheGender can assist you with planning for your birth by knowing the sex of your child a lot sooner.
How soon can the urine gender prediction test tell me if it is a boy or a girl?
KnowtheGender can assist you in determining the sex of your child starting at the 9th week from the first day of your last menstrual period (7 weeks post conception).
When should a Mother not take the KnowtheGender test?
It is important to understand that there are several situations where our KnowtheGender test is not suitable and these include:
- If you have had a miscarriage or termination within three months of your current pregnancy
- If you have had a bone marrow transplant from a male at anytime
- If you have had a blood transfusion within the last 18 months
- If you are taking medication to treat blood-related conditions and/or undergoing anti-coagulant therapy.
- If you are LESS than 10 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period.
What can affect the accuracy of the baby gender test?
Whilst every care is taken to ensure the accuracy of the test there are several important factors to be considered by both the customer and the lab to try and ensure the highest level of accuracy possible. Please read further on How to Collect your Samples to understand more.
- It is important to follow the directions carefully: improperly handling kit components, improperly washing hands and not sanitizing the collection area can lead to contamination.
- Contaminating the sample: allowing males to handle kit contents or assisting with sample collection can cause a wrong result.
- If you conduct the test less than 7 weeks post-conception can lead to a wrong result.
- If you have had a recent transfusion, miscarriage or abortion makes you may not be suited to take the gender prediction test.
- If you provide an insufficient or non compliant urine sample
Has the science behind the testing process been proven?
Various research groups have used detection of cell-free fetal DNA to determine the gender of a fetus. Many of these studies have been published in scientific journals and are available for your review online. The fetal DNA fragments find their way into that maternal peripheral blood stream through the placenta. Blood gets filtered through the kidneys and the fetal DNA passes out with the maternal urine. Read our Science behind the Test to learn more about this.
Is the test suitable if I am expecting multiples?
Yes. You can use the test if you are expecting more than one child but it is important to remeber that genderDNA will NOT determine the amount of boys and/or girls expected and only detects the presence or absence of Y-chromosome. Thus the test will only confirm if your expecting at least one boy or all girls.
If I had a recent miscarriage can i still do the test with KnowtheGender?
Unfortunatley women who have experienced the recent loss of a miscarriage can not use the KnowtheGender test for at least a 3 month period.
What will my baby gender test results state?
The gender test results will clearly tell you whether any male DNA was found in the urine. If male DNA is found, the mother is expecting a boy. If no male DNA is found, the mother is expecting a girl.
How long will it take to have my results?
Your results will be ready in 5-10 working days following the receipt of the urine samples at the lab.
